SlabGuard Guide
PSA Slab Dimensions: Exact Measurements & What Fits
If you collect graded cards, knowing the exact dimensions of a PSA slab matters. The wrong protector wastes shelf space, rattles in transit, and can even scratch the holder you're trying to keep pristine. This guide lists the precise PSA slab measurements in millimetres and inches, explains the small variations between PSA holder generations, and shows how SlabGuard cases are engineered to fit.
Standard PSA slab dimensions
A standard PSA-graded card holder — the one used for Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, sports, and most modern TCGs — has a consistent footprint. These are the numbers serious collectors and shippers reference:
- Height: 130 mm (5.12 in)
- Width: 86 mm (3.39 in)
- Thickness: 6.0 mm (0.236 in)
- Weight: ~28–30 g empty (varies slightly by label era)
PSA has refined its holder shell over multiple generations, but the outer dimensions have stayed within ~0.2 mm of these numbers since the modern shell was introduced. Any well-engineered slab protector should account for this tolerance.
Oversized and thick-card PSA slabs
PSA also encapsulates thicker cards — vintage stock, jersey relics, booklet cards — in deeper holders. The footprint usually matches the standard slab, but thickness can grow:
- Thick card holder: ~9–10 mm thick (footprint unchanged)
- Memorabilia / booklet: custom holders, sized per card
Why exact fit matters
A protector that's too loose lets the slab shift, which scuffs the inner ridges of the case and degrades the gloss of the PSA shell over time. A protector that's too tight stresses the holder, can pop the seam, and makes inserting and removing the slab a stressful event every single time. SlabGuards are CNC-prototyped against the standard PSA footprint with a small, deliberate clearance — snug enough to stay put, loose enough to slide in without friction.
How SlabGuard cases are sized
Every SlabGuard model is built to the 130 × 86 × 6 mm standard PSA holder with a controlled tolerance for the inner cavity. The shell adds roughly 4 mm on each side and front-to-back, so a SlabGuard-protected slab sits at approximately 138 × 94 × 14 mm — still slim enough to stack neatly on a shelf or in a display.
Quick reference table
- Standard PSA slab: 130 × 86 × 6 mm
- Thick-card PSA slab: 130 × 86 × ~9–10 mm
- SlabGuard-protected (standard): ~138 × 94 × 14 mm
- Weight added by SlabGuard: ~25 g
