PSA vs BGS vs CGC: Slab Size & Case Comparison

SlabGuard Team

PSA, BGS (Beckett), and CGC are the three major card grading companies, and each one uses a slightly different holder. If you cross-grade or collect across companies, the dimension differences matter — a protector built for a PSA slab won't necessarily fit a BGS or CGC case. Here's the side-by-side comparison.

PSA slab

  • Height: 130 mm (5.12 in)
  • Width: 86 mm (3.39 in)
  • Thickness: 6.0 mm (0.236 in)
  • Weight: ~28–30 g
  • Shape: rectangular, rounded corners, ultrasonic-welded seam

BGS (Beckett) slab

  • Height: 135 mm (5.31 in)
  • Width: 91 mm (3.58 in)
  • Thickness: 7.5 mm (0.295 in)
  • Weight: ~38–42 g
  • Shape: rectangular with thicker shell and inner sub-grade card stock

CGC slab

  • Height: 130 mm (5.12 in)
  • Width: 89 mm (3.50 in)
  • Thickness: 6.5 mm (0.256 in)
  • Weight: ~30–33 g
  • Shape: rectangular, square corners, tamper-evident inner well

Side-by-side summary

  • PSA is the smallest and slimmest of the three.
  • CGC is roughly PSA-sized but slightly wider and ~0.5 mm thicker.
  • BGS is the largest in every dimension — taller, wider, and noticeably thicker.
A protector designed for PSA will not fit a BGS slab — BGS is about 5 mm taller, 5 mm wider, and 1.5 mm thicker. CGC slabs are close enough to PSA that some PSA protectors fit, but the fit will be loose. Always match the protector to the grading company.
